Types of landscape design information. Landscaping your area is a big chore to some, it requires time to measure, visit the local nursery store and then start looking for the right plants. Hiring a local professional landscaper is the right thing to do, however, here are some helpful tips that could save you both time and money.

First, spend some time thinking about exactly how you want the final design to be. What type of landscape are you looking for and what about your budget?  Do you want to include an area for entertainment? Is there to be an area for the kids and grandkids to play, a pond, or a swimming pool?

I personally like lots of greenery and color this means high maintenance and more water usage.  Of course, this is my preference, and everyone has their own landscaping ideas. Here are some great garden ideas for you.

One clever idea is to visit your local nursery after deciding what type of landscape you are looking for. But first, make a list of plants you think would work.  Get an idea of the plants you want to use. It is best to focus on the area where you will spend most of your time. It is a good idea to think twice before hiring a professional. An independent landscape designer might cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars. But you could get a lot of information free by searching the internet or visiting a local nursery. If you have an awkward spot such as very steep ground, a professional might give you the advice you are looking for possibly saving you a ton of money.

The style of your home must be taken into account. If you have a rural cottage, formal gardens surrounding it will look out-of-place. Think also about your lifestyle. Do you want to spend hours caring for many beds of annuals or pruning beds of roses? Formal. This style uses lots of straight lines and perfect geometrical shapes. An orderly arrangement of plants instead of random positioning is done. Close arrangement and lots of pruning can be seen in many landscaped gardens with this type of garden.

Formal Landscape Garden

Informal. This kind of landscaping works well with small cottages. Beds with curved edges instead of straight lines and random placement of plants suit this landscape style.  Many homeowners prefer this type of garden.  They will typically let things grow to their natural size.  This means less maintenance and pruning.

English Garden. This style emphasizes the harmony between the house’s architecture and the garden.    High water usage and maintenance are required.

Formal/Informal Garden. This style often comes with a brick walkway that exudes formality. This walkway leads to the rear with a circle of plants. The arrangement and planning of the English garden style have no formal borders.

Oriental. It is often the kind of garden found in small backyards. It uses rocks and water features. A wide variety of plants will create several interesting angles with this style.  This type of garden requires lots of maintenance and care plus water features such as fountains, and small ponds.  There are lots of junipers, topiary,  and evergreen plants including large and small bonsai.

Cottage Garden.  It is considered an old-style gardens.  Consider using magnolia trees, hydrangeas, roses, and lilacs. The flowering perennials we mentioned will fit well in this look.

Herbs are also great in a Cottage Garden Plants like sweet bay, rosemary, blueberries, and figs will match perfectly with this style of garden.

The Mediterranean Garden. This garden style is high walls filled with tall Olive, juniper, or Cypress trees. It often requires a water feature or running water pond. Hanging rosemary or other ground covers flowing from the walls or in large containers. Lilacs around or near walls as formal hedges work great. Xeriscape Garden Will Work

Xeriscape.  If you live in a region where there are lots of sunshine and hot weather then this type of garden is for those who want minimal care and less water. Low watering plants are used and many homeowners think “cactus and a brownish desert look”!  But, it is actually a smart-scape.  Here is what Wikipedia has to say about this kind of low water garden.

There are tons of low-water plants to use in a Xeriscape garden.  Verbenas, Palms, lantanas, salvia’s, Texas sage, gazania, and lilacs.  Yes, lilacs will do well in arid regions.  For trees, Texas mountain laurels Chinese Pistache, and the Vitex will give you privacy, shade, and color in spring and fall.

    These are really great ideas to create a beautiful landscape. Landscaping is a great investment since it adds beauty to your humble home; it will also increase the value, which will be beneficial once you put your house on sale.

    I really liked the oriental type of landscape design because of the idea that though it consumes a lot of water, it uses a lot of rocks, evergreen plants, and water. My mom has been interested in such a look because she has always wanted a mountainside look with a lake for the backyard. I will suggest this to her since she plans on getting the yard landscaped soon. She might as well consider a design that she will be satisfied with.
